UUM ONLINE: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and Isabela State University (ISU) have joined forces in a collaborative effort to promote environmental sustainability and empower the local community.

Suwannit Chareen Chit and Musyrifah Mahmod, both from the UUM School of Computing (SoE), played a key role in this initiative. They are working alongside Associate Professor Dr Jamimie Mateo, Director of Gender and Development at ISU, and Madam Conchita de Palencia, representing the Women on Waste organisation based in Isabela, Philippines.

A joint project is underway to develop an interactive application specifically designed to raise awareness about environmental preservation efforts. This application will serve as a valuable tool for both institutions as they strive towards a greener future.

In addition to the collaborative app development, Suwannit Chareen Chit's expertise was sought after for a separate event. He was invited to deliver a talk titled “Wireless Sensor Networks: Architecture, Protocol, and Applications” to an audience of 50 staff and students from ISU's College of Computer Science and Information Technology.

Suwannit Chareen Chit, who is also a fellow researcher with the MCMC-UUM MakerSpace Laboratory, also delivered a keynote address on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to over 100 ISU staff members. This program was conducted in collaboration with the Mechatronics and Robotics Society of the Philippines.

Through these collaborative efforts, UUM and ISU showcase their commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting environmental responsibility and empowering the community through education and technological advancements.
