UUM Online: UUM recently hosted the 5th Transnational Project Meeting for the Erasmus+ international research grant on Curricula Development on Climate Change Policy and Law (CCP-LAW). The meeting took place over three days at UUM from April 23rd to 25th, 2024, followed by a scientific visit to the UNESCO Global Geopark in Langkawi Island until April 27th, 2024.
A total of 32 delegates from 10 institutions representing six countries gathered at UUM to discuss the latest developments in research projects and the development of new curricula in climate change policy and law. Besides UUM, other institutions involved in the meeting were European Knowledge Spot and PEDMEDE (Greece), Coventry University (UK), Universitat de Girona (Spain), Hanoi Law University and Hue University (Vietnam), Marwadi University and Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (India), as well as the International Islamic University Malaysia.
Representing UUM, five participants attended the meeting, including Associate Professor Dr. Haslinda Mohd Anuar as the lead researcher, as well as Professor Dr. Harlida Abdul Wahab and Associate Professor Dr. Ani Munirah Mohamad (SOL), Dr. Wan Norhayati Wan Ahmad (TISSA), and Dr. Mohamad Farhan Mohamad Mohsin (SOC). These five lecturers are also researchers of the Climate Change Law Research Unit (CLIMATE) of SOL.
The meeting members had previously held the first transnational meeting online, followed by the second in Spain and the third and fourth in India. Apart from the formal meetings, the delegates also met with the UUM management and visited several UUM facilities such as the UUM Welcome Centre, Sultanah Bahiyah Library, UUM Management Museum, U-Assist, and CLIMATE, SOL.
The meeting with UUM management was chaired by Professor Dr. Russayani Ismail, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation). The delegates were briefed on various campus sustainability initiatives implemented at UUM through a presentation by Associate Professor Dr. Masnita Misiran @ Bakun, Director of the Centre for Testing, Measurement, and Appraisal (CeTMA). Also present at the meeting was Associate Professor Dr. Nor Idayu Mahat, Director of UUM’s Research Management Centre (RMC).
Professor Dr. Russayani stated, "The outcome of this project is a new curriculum for climate change law and policy that will be offered by the participating universities. UUM is proud to be one of the universities entrusted by the European Union through this Erasmus+ project, and will subsequently offer this new program, aligning with the current needs of global climate change."
"Three main aspects emphasized in the new curriculum are policy and law, technical, and management," she added.
Furthermore, Professor Dr. Harlida Abdul Wahab, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of the College of Law, Government, and International Studies (COLGIS) and Dean of SOL, explained, "Overall, this Transnational Project Meeting has effectively achieved its goals. It has significantly improved delegates' skills in interactive teaching and learning methods for the upcoming curriculum and has established a framework for continuous learning to support future program offerings.”
