GOVERNOR OF SATUN WELCOMES COLLABORATION WITH UUM

UUM ONLINE: SATUN, April 30 - The meeting between the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and the delegation of Satun Governor, Sakra Kapinkarn, this morning marked the end of the series of productive visits to southern Thailand.

UUM has consistently put in efforts to establish and maintain the reputation of the Malaysian higher education brand, particularly UUM, to ensure its continued recognition in the Asian region.

During the meeting, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan expressed UUM's interest in strengthening collaboration in higher education with the Satun Region.

Similar to the meetings with the Governors of Songkhla and Pattani, UUM has also provided opportunities for students and staff in Satun to pursue their studies at UUM.

Furthermore, UUM has also offered short-term professional programmes or courses as well as English classes, for individuals seeking to study and prepare for admission into UUM or other Malaysian universities through MUET.

In addition, UUM also expressed its intention to establish a UUM Collaboration Centre in Southern Thailand, aiming to facilitate the recruitment of students from the Southern regions of Thailand into UUM.

Also in attendance were the senior officers of the Satun Regional Education Office, who provided detailed explanation about the various high schools in Satun, both government and private.

The Governor of Satun, His Excellency Sakra Kapinkarn, expressed gratitude to UUM for the engaging discussion and expressed the desire for UUM to provide further information about the university as it would help in attracting more students and staff from Satun to pursue their studies at undergraduate or postgraduate levels.

He expressed delight in initiating this partnership, which is expected to be mutually advantageous and influential; additionally, the UUM curriculum will pique the interest of the students.

Overall, the outcome of this visit is to ensure the successful implementation of initiatives aimed at enhancing the internationalisation of higher education, which will in turn contribute to the nation’s economic development.

UUM COB Assistant Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA-UUM), Prof. Dr. Ram Al Jaffri Saad, and other senior officers of UUM participated in the three-day, two-night visit to the South of Thailand. Also in attendance were Prof. Dr Yahya Don, the Dean of Awang Had Salleh Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (AHSGS), and Prof. Dr Shukri Ahmad, the Dean of the School of Language, Civilization and Philosophy (SLCP).
