The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) hosted an International Cultural Fiesta (ICF) on Friday, 15 December 2023. The famous Korean serial Squid Game was used as the theme to organise this international-level programme. Global Buddies Club leaders were invited to participate in the programme.

ICF started with a briefing session about the USM Buddies Club, the programme’s organiser. The buddies were exposed to the buddy system for international students and supporting the International Mobility and Collaboration Centre (IMCC), USM. GBC leaders were exposed to management tips they could apply at UUM to handle the club and its activities.

Then, the participants were brought around USM for a campus tour led by the Student Representative Council of USM. After the tour, participants joined the country booth visit in Dataran Merah. The booths included various cultural exhibitions that immersed participants in the traditions and history of various countries represented by USM international students. Participants were drawn by colourful exhibits of art, traditional attire and foods, which provided unique insights into many civilisations. After ending the country booth visit, the participants returned to their residency and were given lunch before leaving.

The main event of the programme is the gala cultural night. The stage was brought to life by magnificent performances highlighting the artistic abilities of individuals and groups from many countries. Dance, music performances, theatre plays, and soul-stirring poetry readings were all performed for the audience.

ICF 2023 fosters friendship between buddies from USM, UUM and other universities, including UTHM, UMT, USIM, UTP, and UNIKL. It also promotes inclusivity, respect, and appreciation for cultural differences.
