As a fully residential university, Universiti Utara Malaysia provides accommodation for almost 20,000 of its students in 15 residential halls, including a residential hall for students who bring their family along to Malaysia. Many of these halls are named after multinational companies. UUM has 15 residential halls namely MAS, TENAGA NASIONAL, TRADEWINDS, PROTON, PETRONAS, EON, SIME DARBY, MISC, TM, BSN, BANK MUAMALAT, YAYASAN AL-BUKHARY, BANK RAKYAT and SME BANK.
For undergraduate students are guaranteed a place in one of the residential halls. Accommodation for postgraduate students are on a ‘first come, first serve basis’.
Each of the residential halls is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including common rooms, a cafeteria, laundry facilities, shops, a recreation center, and sports facilities. It is also common for postgraduate students who have accompanying family members in Malaysia to rent houses near to UUM Campus.
Cost of Living in Sintok (based on a sharing basis)
With respect to the cost living, Sintok lies within Kedah average and is therefore not excessively expensive. The estimated living cost will be around RM650 per month (based on a sharing basis, on campus).The budget will be vary per person depend on the accommodation, travelling, eating out, hanging out, shopping, etc.

If you are renting outside campus, the rental would be between RM600 to RM1000 for a 3 bedroom house.
UUM’s Health Care - University Health Centre (PKU)
The University Health Centre provides a comprehensive health service that covers medical and dental treatment, counseling, first aid, surgery, and medication for students and staff. Other facilities and services include a computerized hematology laboratory, an imaging and diagnostic laboratory, and also pediatric and antenatal clinical services. International students are advised to obtain comprehensive health insurance coverage.
Sultanah Bahiyah Library
This library is an automated library, which has 2,121,053 items in its collections, including 311,195 volumes of printed materials, and 974,100 items in electronic or digitized forms. The library currently subscribes to 64,235 titles from electronic journals.
The library had obtained the MS ISO 9002 in 1997 and has now obtained the MS ISO 9001:2000.
Most of the modern-day facilities are located centrally at the Varsity Mall. These facilities include banking facilities (BSN, and BIMB), a local Post Office, a Cooperative Bookshop, and a restaurant, which can accommodate up to 350 people at a time.
The mall also has a mini- market that supplies stationary, toiletries, groceries and other goods at affordable prices. Located within the mall premises are 40 shop-lots with a variety of businesses ranging from cyber-centers, hair salons, computer and telecommunication sales and service shops to photocopy service centers. The Varsity Mall is the hub, which houses all the basic amenities.
Both for its facilities and the services it provides, the Varsity Mall has become an integral and important part of the UUM campus experience.
Sports and Recreational Facilities
In its quest to develop well-rounded individuals, the University has an extensive array of sports and recreational facilities, which include an Olympic-size swimming pool, a mini-stadium with a state-of-the-art running track, an archery range, shooting range, badminton, tennis, basketball, volleyball, rugby, hockey, softball, handball and netball courts as well as football fields.
UUM is the only university in Malaysia that has a go-kart circuit and provides recreational facilities for canoeing, jogging, cycling, jungle trekking, climbing, abseiling and camping.
